The PSLE AL score is determined based on individual subject performance, with each subject being graded on an 8-point scale from AL1 (best performance) to AL8. For example, an AL1 corresponds to a score of 90 and above, while AL8 represents scores below 20. The total PSLE score is calculated by summing the AL scores of four subjects, with the best possible total being 4 (AL1 for all subjects) and the lowest being 32.
Under the new PSLE scoring system, students are placed into Secondary 1 pathways based on their total AL score, with ties being resolved using specific criteria such as citizenship or choice order of schools. This approach aims to encourage students to focus on learning rather than chasing marks, fostering a healthier academic environment.
